Primary election day - what you need to know

Crawford County has 52,096 voters registered for today's primary election with Republicans holding a substantial lead in registrations.

House Majority PAC and Priorities USA Action will spend $270,000 on the ads, which target four Republican candidates across a trio of southern California House races that Democrats view as prime pick-up opportunities in November.

Reaching that level might be tough.

People can register to vote at the polls, and new or unaffiliated voters can declare themselves Republican at that time if they wish to vote in the Republican primary.

Republicans outnumber Democrats in Pennsylvania's House delegation, though a new congressional map is making the state a focal point of Democrats' effort to reclaim House control in November. In 2016, Trump became the first Republican presidential nominee to win the state in 28 years. But a three-way field that includes a progressive activist pastor backed by Bernie Sanders's Our Revolution organization (Greg Edwards), Allentown City Solicitor Susan Ellis Wild, supported by EMILY's List, and blue-doggy-ish Northampton County DA John Morganelli (who has taken conservative positions on abortion and immigration) has created some suspense.

"No excitement about Senate race". "Quite a few people (on the Republican side locally) are interested in the governor's race". In a last-minute bid to drum up voter interest Monday, Wagner visited Chick's Diner in Scranton and Mango stopped at the Holiday Inn Express in Dupont.

For races related to Pennsylvania's General Assembly, there are no contests in the primary for either Democrats or Republicans.

However, when primaries center on offices other than the presidency, turnout percentages clearly drop.

Voters headed to the polls Tuesday in four states where primary outcomes will provide fresh signs about voters' mood less than six months before Election Day.

A Homeland Security official has met with Pennsylvania officials to discuss election security as voters choose Republican challengers to Democratic Gov. Tom Wolf and U.S. Sen. Sestak beat Specter, but lost to Republican Pat Toomey that November.

The primary will also decide nominees in races for lieutenant governor, the U.S. House and state legislative races. Casey is unopposed for the Democratic nomination today.

Republicans in the new 9th Congressional District, which includes Montour County and the eastern portion of Northumberland County, will select Dan Meuser of Luzerne County, George Halcovage of Schuylkill County or Scott C. Uehlinger of Berks County, has their nominee.

The result: 40.9 percent of Democrats turned out, only 26.8 percent of Republicans. Bob Casey, who is seeking a third term in November.

The result: 36.8 percent of Democrats turned out, only 25.2 percent of Republicans. Democratic turnout in that district was 42.2 percent, much higher than countywide. But the state's Democratic establishment is lining up behind A.J. Balukoff, a 72-year-old Idaho businessman who ran for governor in 2014. Five candidates - Tom Carlucci, Randy Castellani, Robert Castellani, Frank McHale and Kyle Mullins - want the nomination. The victor of their primary will face Republican Rep. Don Bacon.

Rep. Lou Barletta is hoping Trump's recent run of successful election suggestions continues in the Pennsylvania Republican Senate primary.

Weather sometimes plays a role.
