It was Antoine Griezmann who was the hero for Atletico Madrid as the French striker scored twice in their 3-0 win over Marseille in Lyon, France.

"Of course, this victory will help him stay, and more so in the way we have won it, being as decisive as he is for us", he said.

"People talk about things, they have their opinions, but I've always said I have a contract here and I don't know what will happen in the future", Oblak insisted to reporters in the mixed zone following the game.

Meanwhile, Griezmann has 29 goals and 15 assists in 48 appearances for Atletico this season.

The French global has finally managed to break the second place curse, beating Marseille 3-0 in the final to lift the UEFA Europa League trophy.

Atletico Madrid got their hands on the Europa League trophy yesterday morning (Singapore time), but can only pray that their prized asset on the field, Antoine Griezmann, won't slip away from their grasp. Pep Guardiola is already looking towards the upcoming season and has earmarked the Atletico Madrid superstar as a priority summer target. If we want to play the Champions League or the Europa League next year, we will have to go through mental challenges.

"I left home when I was 14 years old because I wanted to win trophies, this is my second and I hope I can win more".

"Today [Griezmann] has shown that he is focused on Atletico and we will hopefully have him with us next year". "I was determined to take the opportunity to win one tonight".

And though the victory came against Marseille, the club he supported as a youngster, there was no bittersweet ending to his evening. "He's a lad who has given so much", Simeone said.

Sunday's Liga game will also mark the end of Fernando Torres' career with Atletico.
