'The Walking Dead' Star Andrew Lincoln Is Reportedly Leaving in Season 9

According to a report for Collider, Lincoln's Rick Grimes will be written out of the post-apocalyptic series after just a half dozen episodes in season nine. For anyone who's avidly been following the show since its premiere in 2010, this is a huge bummer-as perhaps the only comparably cool character on the show is Norman Reedus' Daryl Dixon. Fear the Walking Dead airs Sundays at 9 pm ET on AMC.

In a 2015 USA TODAY interview during Season 5, Lincoln said he wasn't ready to leave, but that the show could continue without him. The contracts of both Reedus and Lincoln were up after Season 8, and they had new deals in place before the next installment was announced.

When Walking Dead showrunner Scott M Gimple stated that season nine of AMC's zombie hit would be "very much a new show", he wasn't joking. Although she did ultimately sign on for the next season, Cohan will only appear in six episodes, as she will also be filming the ABC drama Whiskey Cavalier. While it was confirmed she'd be back for season 9, she'll supposedly appear in only six episodes.

AMC has reportedly tapped Reedus to succeed Lincoln as the series lead.

Earlier this year, there were rumours that another member of the cast, Lauren Cohan (Maggie Rhee), was contemplating leaving TWD as well due to compensation issues. Chandler Riggs wanted to move on from the show, and Carl was killed off.

He has been the driving force behind The Walking Dead for the past eight seasons. The fans will never see Carl become a man because AMC did not recast the character and took the easy way out.

Lincoln, Reedus, Lauren Cohan, and Danai Gurira are all set to return for series nine, which is now in production.

But I do think Lincoln has been on the show for far too long, and I wouldn't mind seeing him try his hand at other things.
