Hopefully, Xiaomi Malaysia will bring in the Mi 8 SE - as well as the flagship Mi 8 - to Malaysia in the near future. According to the company, it works faster and better than analogues from Vivo. Let's see what we can gleam from the info we have so far!

The smartphone runs MIUI 10, which is based on Android Oreo and to power SoC there's a 3400 mAh battery.

The Mi 8 is also Xiaomi's first phone to feature dual-frequency Global Positioning System, which uses a combination of two satellite frequencies instead of one to compute its position. The Mi 8 Explore Edition variants come with more RAM, in-display fingerprint scanner and 3D face unlock while the Mi 8 SE comes with a smaller display and trimmed down specifications.

The Xiaomi Mi 8, which incidentally skips the 7 in favor of the number 8 to mark the company's eighth year, shares a similar notch design and vertical rear cameras.

Pricing for the Mi 8 line is competitive. If you hate bezels, this phone is for you - 88.5 percent of the phone's body is screen (the iPhone X, by contrast, has only an 82.9 percent body-to-screen ratio). That ratio could've been even higher, but a large notch occupies much of the top of the screen. This phone is powered by 2.8GHz Octa-Core Snapdragon 845 processor with Adreno 630 GPU.

Other notable features include IR Face Unlock, Dual 4G VoLTE, Dual Frequency GPS to aid inner-city navigation, Bluetooth 5.0 and NFC, oh the omission of the audio jack. The cameras feature 1.4-micron pixels, OIS, dual-pixel autofocus and AI-powered portrait mode.

Xiaomi representatives deny that the company plans to have a device called the Mi A2 to pure Android. From the two, one is a 12-megapixel sensor with wide angle lens, and other is a 12-megapixel sensor with a telephoto lens. In terms of storage, the Mi 8 features 128GB of internal storage, while the Mi 8 is available in 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB storage variants.

The Mi 8 and Mi 8 SE will be available from early June, while the Mi 8 Explorer Edition is coming at a later date.

Xiaomi says it's the first Android manufacturer to employ the technology.

Meanwhile, the more premium Explorer edition will cost 3699 yuan, or approximately £433.
