Apple said it never took information from Facebook (AAPL)

"Well it turns out these can be used to track you, whether you click on them or not", Federighi said.

"Do you want to allow "facebook.com" to use cookies and website data while browsing [this site]?"

New tools in the operating system for Macintosh computers, called Mojave, and iOS 12 in iPhone and iPad will block social media "Like" or "Share" buttons and comment widgets from tracking users without permission, Apple said at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference Monday.

A New York Times report stated how personal information of Facebook users had been made available for Apple and other 60 device makers over an agreement between them. When people visit sites, the characteristics of their device can be used by advertisers to create a "fingerprint" to track them.

"We went back and looked at the last 17 years, they've really never had a developers conference and it was entirely software related", Munster said in an interview with Cheddar's Hope King.

"It will become dramatically more hard for data companies to identify your device and track you", Federighi said.

Apple's software upgrades also include features that help users understand how much time they are spending on their devices, amid concerns about growing smartphone "addiction". With a record of almost every site a person visits, Facebook combines the pages you Like, the data you pour into it and the sites you visit to figure out what ads to show you. For years, Facebook has followed users around the web with the help of its tiny thumbs-up button. Apple removed those features for all four companies with iOS 11 previous year. Along with ways to limit distracting notifications from iPhones, a new Screen Time feature allows people to more tightly control and monitor time spent in applications.

Facebook recently said it will let you delete information the company gathers from your activity on other websites and apps.

Apple took the stage Monday in San Jose, California, to introduce features coming to the iPhone, Apple Watch and Mac.

"This is beyond remarkable", Cook said, noting that the online App Store will be 10 years old in July. Safari will share a "simplified" profile to thwart this, Apple said. "It's something privacy advocates have been asking for - and we will work with them to make sure we get it right".

While the feature will make launching apps and using the keyboard faster on newer phones, it's also an indicator that Apple is catering to older phones as more people are hanging onto their devices for longer.
