Reiterating his government's commitment to the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said: "Our national mission on cleanliness and sanitation - Swachh Bharat Abhiyan - has a special focus on "plastic waste management".

While plastic has many valuable uses, we have become over reliant on single-use or disposable plastic, with severe environmental consequences.


Officials from CRPF and ITBP have organized a programme "Run to Beat Plastic Pollution" There was an open invitation for all. According to MacArthur Foundation, there are over 150 million tonnes of plastic in the oceans at present, which means about 1 tonne of plastic for every three tonne of fish.

She noted the need to cut down on the volume of plastic generation on campus through the use of reuse plastic.

Every year, June 5 is observed as World Environment Day and people could adopt simpler things to reduce the planet's vulnerability.

Also, many people are promoting the use of cloth bags over plasting and also by planting trees.

Union Environment Minister Harsh Vardhan, UN Environment Director, industrialists, and many dignitaries participated in the program. He will also visit the exhibition set up on the occasion at the Rajpath lawns.
