Leimome Cheeks, 62, was arrested on Saturday for allegedly transporting her two grandchildren in pet kennels in the trunk of her vehicle.

According to an affidavit, cell phone video from Saturday night shows Leimome Cheeks letting a child out of the kennel near the 3700 block Elvis Presley just before 8 p.m.

The children told police there wasn't much air in the kennels and they were very hot. They say she's a woman of faith and a very nice lady.

A concerned citizen shot the video and forwarded it to the police. They said their grandmother told them to sit in the kennels because there was no room in the trunk.

The issues of child abuse and endangerment have been at the forefront of the public awareness ever since 13 children were discovered shackled and held captive in a Perris, California, home last January.

Facebook Leimome Cheeks is being charged with child endangerment after allegedly locking two children in dog kennels in the trunk of her SUV.

"Many have inquired about a viral video from Saturday that shows two children being transported in pet kennels", the Memphis Police Department said.

"It's shocking, it really is". WATN said it attempted to contact Cheeks at her home over the weekend, but no one answered the door.

Neighbors of Cheeks expressed their shock after learning about the incident. "It's a huge mistake, get some help yeah but put her in jail, it's hard to say", Skylarr Blake said. Their grandmother is scheduled to be in court Monday morning at 9 a.m.
