Xiaomi has introduced its Redmi Y2 smartphone in India.

Xiaomi Redmi Y2 specifications and other details are revealed, and we observed that there are some differences as compared to the speculations prior to launch. There is also a fingerprint sensor which has been placed at the back. The Redmi S2 will launch in India on June 7, Xiaomi has confirmed on Twitter. "The Redmi Y2 packs in some interesting features like a 16 MP AI-powered selfie camera, a dual camera setup on the rear, a 5.99" Full HD display, a 3080 mAh battery and much more.

Speculations also suggest that Redmi 6 might carry a dual-rear camera and 5MP sensor at front. While the MIUI 10 update version 8.6.6 for the device is already out, it is limited to only a select few who have taken part in the closed beta program in their home country of China. The screen on the Redmi Y2 is a 5.99-inch HD+ panel with an aspect ratio of 18:9. The smartphone comes in three colour variants in India - Dark Grey, Rose Gold, and Gold. It will be available in two storage variants - 32GB and 64GB storage variants.

Coming to the camera department, there is a 12 mega pixel rear camera with LED Flash, 1.25μm pixel size, PDAF with f/2.2 aperture and a secondary 5 MP camera. It will be sold via Amazon.in, Mi.com, and Mi partner stores.

Xiaomi is expected to unveil the Redmi Y2, the likely successor to the Redmi Y1 in India today.

In the meanwhile, Redmi Y2 launch offers include a Rs. 500 instant discount on ICICI Bank on credit and debit cards in the first sale.

The phone is available in two variants - 3GB RAM and 32GB storage, and 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. There's a microSD card slot for further expansion of storage. There is also a portrait mode, which works fine in our initial testing. The device will come with the same specifications as the Redmi S2 and it is the successor of the Redmi Y1 that was launched a year ago. Also, it's the cheapest phone in the Indian market, right now, to come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 processor. On the connectivity front, it features 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth 4.2, WiFi, GPS, GLONASS, dual-SIM, 3,5mm audio jack and micro USB 2.0.
