Rouhani: More dialogue needed with Russian Federation after US nuclear deal exit

"As far as I know, the president of the United States said the considering the possibility of regulating the additional supply of automotive equipment in the US market", he said.

The agreement is based on greater intelligence sharing between the countries of the G7 group of industrialised nations - Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, UK and the U.S. - and aims to identify, prevent and respond to hostile state activity including cyber-attacks. In order to thoroughly discuss all that, our foreign ministries need to cooperate, as well as experts.

He mentioned the recent withdrawal of the United States from the Joint Comprehensive Nuclear Plan of Action (JCPOA) or the Iranian nuclear deal as he said, "this could de-stablise the situation".

He signalled he wanted better relations with the U.S., and said he welcomed Trump's call to allow Russian Federation back into the G7 group of leading industrialised nations.

"Why are we having a meeting without Russian Federation in the meeting?" he said.

Trump, before jumping on Air Force One to fly to Canada which is hosting the G7 summit, called for a return to the body's pre-2014 "G8" formula.

Iran's President Hassan Rouhani, whose country is an observer member, also attended the meeting as he seeks Chinese and Russian support following the U.S. withdrawal from the nuclear deal with Tehran.

The G7 ended in discord on Saturday when Trump clashed with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and said he might hit the auto industry with tariffs.

During the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) on Sunday, Russian President Vladimir Putin told the assembled leaders, including Rouhani, that the USA withdrawal could "destabilise the situation" but Moscow still supports the "unconditional implementation" of the deal. "And in the G-7, which used to be the G-8, they threw Russia out; they should let Russia come back in, because we should have Russia at the negotiating table". "As soon as he is ready, the meeting will take place, depending, of course, on my working schedule". I think it would be good for the US.

China and Russian Federation have been moving closer amid heightened tensions between Beijing and Washington on economic and military fronts, and as Moscow struggles with US-led sanctions. Aside from the dispute over Russian Federation annexing the Crimea from Ukraine, the Kremlin's standing within the worldwide community has been eroded by its meddling in elections in other countries.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said he told Trump that readmitting Russian Federation "is not something that we are even remotely looking at at this time".

Speaking after the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization on Sunday, Putin said: "Once again, nothing concrete was said".

He said: "I've always said that our country must remain within North Atlantic Treaty Organisation, but the sanctions are damaging us".

The shift has yielded only modest economic benefits, with Russia's two-way trade with China still less than half what it is with Europe, but it has allowed Putin to slough off his country's isolation from the West.
