Trump 'had taken a huge and important step in the direction of the disarmament, peace and reconciliation between North and South Korea, ' they told Norwegian news agency NTB on Wednesday.

A group of US lawmakers nominated Trump for the prize earlier this year, before the summit had taken place (and before it was canceled, then reinstated). "I think that we can do by sending a clear signal by giving Trump the peace prize".

In the message of the broadcaster noted that the candidacy of Donald trump was nominated for the peace prize in 2016, 2017 and 2018.

Norwegian Nobel Committee must receive the nomination before February 1. They argued that President Trump had already earned this distinction due to his efforts to remove nuclear weapons from the Korean Peninsula.

Amundsen nominated Trump along with his fellow Progress Party colleague Christian Tybring-Gjedde.

The nomination missed this years' deadline for the prize, so Mr Trump's nomination would only make him eligible for the award next year.

While the Norwegian Nobel committee is appointed by Parliament, its decisions are independent.

Mr Trump's Norwegian nominations come after United Kingdom bookmakers slashed the odds of him winning after his summit with Kim Jong Un in Singapore.

For two consecutive years, in 2016 and 2017, the candidacy of trump offered the same U.S. citizen.

In 2009, the Nobel Peace Prize award to newly-elected US President Barack Obama was widely criticized as premature.

He was the second oldest person to assume the U.S. presidency when he took office in 2017.

The committee's secretary, Olav Njoelstad, said "it is not impossible" for someone who has been criticised by committee members to be considered, and even win, the prize.

Mr Amundsen said: "A process is under way to ensure world peace in the future". This year, it was nominated for a record number of 330 people.
