English bulldog Zsa Zsa (main picture) was awarded the title of the World's Ugliest Dog at this year's competition, held at the Sonoma-Marin Fairgrounds in Petaluma, San Francisco, on Saturday.

"Zsa Zsa is 9 year old English Bulldog".

Zsa Zsa's owner, Megan Brainard of Anoka, Minnesota, was chosen to receive the cash prize of $1,500 (€1,285) in the competition, which has attracted significant media coverage in the past few years. Her mother saw her attractive picture on pet finder and HAD TO HAVE HER! Thank goodness Ms. Brainard was able to see Zsa Zsa's radiant inner beauty.

As with any competition rating animals by their looks, there's a lot of controversy surrounding Zsa Zsa's win.

"She was eating part of a Slim Jim on the table and just sneezed all over them and was drooling on them", she explained.

With a seemingly three-inch-long lolling tongue and a jutting jaw, Zsa Zsa prevailed over 13 other contestants in the Ugliest Dog contest, a mainstay of the fair for more than 30 years.

The dogs and their handlers walked down a red carpet, as a panel of judges evaluated them.

This year's dogs include a blackhead-covered Chinese Crested-Dachshund mutt and a bulldog mix with excess wrinkly skin.

Past winners have been rescued from animal shelters and puppy mills.

Last year's World's Ugliest Dog prize went to a 3-year-old, 125-pound (57-kilo) Neapolitan Mastiff named Martha.
