Feline fortune-teller Achilles tips Nigeria to beat Argentina

Thousands of Croatians late on Thursday (Jun 21) celebrated with euphoria in the country's streets and squares after their team's 3-0 victory over Argentina powered them into the World Cup last 16.

In the other match of Group D, Argentina are a goal up against Nigeria.

Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have both missed penalties during the ongoing 2018 FIFA World Cup!

Over the weekend, at the team's training base on the outskirts of Moscow, local residents attempted to show their support, celebrating Messi's 31st birthday with a giant cake.

The two-time world champions will hopefully improve going forward if they can find a way to get Lionel Messi and their other forwards more involved, but there's little they can do to solve their problems at the back.

"We have to make our goal five games to reach the final".

How much Messi could do to turn Argentina back into the World Cup contender it usually is, was already in question before the tournament.

Diego Maradona blamed the Argentine Football Association president Claudio Tapia for the current situation of the team.

Argentina's game against Nigeria has an extra importance due to the fact that it may be Messi's last ever game at a World Cup.

Iceland were defensively sound in qualification, only conceding seven goals - however, Croatia were responsible for two of those so they may just have the key to finding a way past the stout defence.

"Leo is fine", insisted veteran midfielder Javier Mascherano, who knows Messi better than most having spent eight years as his club team-mate at Barcelona.

He is one of various animals testing their psychic credentials at the World Cup, including hippos Milya and Glyasik in Kaliningrad, Spartak the lemur in Yekaterinburg and Harry the otter in Sochi.

"I took responsibility for the defeat (against Croatia) and I am totally confident that we are going to win tomorrow and secure the victory", Sampaoli said.

But simply watching Messi's reaction to the losses should extinguish any notions that he doesn't care about his national team. Messi will touch the ball a lot more.

A win against Argentina will guarantee Nigeria a place in the second round.

"I can't really clarify things that are untrue and things that don't exist", Sampoali said.
