This also means that, for the first time in his career, LeBron will be playing in the NBA's Western Conference, eliminating the chance of next year's NBA Finals being a fifth-consecutive showdown between the Golden State Warriors and whatever side LeBron is on.

The 33-year-old James leaves his hometown Cleveland Cavaliers for the second time as a free agent after opting out of his deal on Friday.

With James' decision to leave Cleveland - just as he did eight years ago when he joined the Miami Heat - the Cavs say goodbye to their all-time leader in several statistical categories, including points, rebounds, assists, steals, games and minutes played.

However, his decision to make a long-awaited move to California was confirmed via a press release from Klutch Sports Group today.

Three-time National Basketball Association champion LeBron James has agreed to a four-year $154 million contract with the Los Angeles Lakers, his agency said on Sunday.

'LeBron James, 4 time NBA MVP, 3 time NBA finals MVP, 14 time NBA All-Star, and 2 time Olympic gold medalist has agreed to a four year, $154 million contract with the Los Angeles Lakers, ' the official statement read.

"What Woj is reporting is (obviously, as always) 100% correct", Wright wrote later on Twitter.

Los Angeles had been hoping to sign Paul George.

It's the last long-term max contract that James can sign thanks to the NBA CBA's Over-38 rule (formerly the Over-37 rule).

They're likely going to re-sign Rodney Hood, who averaged 16.8 points per game in a featured role with the Utah Jazz last season, with James gone. According to Chris Haynes of ESPN and Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports, the Lakers have agreed to a deal with Lance Stephenson.

McGee and the Lakers reached agreement on a one-year deal worth the minimum, league sources told ESPN.
