Aretha Franklin hospitalized and ‘gravely ill,’ report says

According to Showbiz 411, the 76-year-old is 'gravely ill.' She is also reportedly resting with her friends and family by her side.

Aretha announced plans to retire previous year following one last album, in order to spend more time with her family.

Her last performance was in November of last year, for the Elton John AIDS Foundation in NY, while a number of shows scheduled for this year were also cancelled under doctor's orders.

Franklin was performing as recently as previous year but she canceled a series of concerts citing "doctors orders".

Fans from around the world have offered thoughts and prayers to Franklin and her family.

"Aretha Franklin has been ordered by her doctor to stay off the road and rest completely for at least the next two months", her management said in a statement. "She is extremely disappointed she can not perform at this year's New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival as she had expected and hoped to". She was reportedly diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2011, but she denied reports that she carried the disease.
