Bama, Clemson lead AP preseason Top 25 poll

The rankings are set by listing the teams' point totals from highest to lowest.

Teams ranked in the AP poll on Alabama's schedule include No. 9 Auburn, No. 18 Mississippi State and No. 25 LSU.

Alabama started last season as the nation's No. 1 team and ended it as the No. 1 team, so there was little surprise when the Associated Press unveiled its preseason top 25 on Monday afternoon: For the third straight season, the Crimson Tide stood atop the rankings.

The AP Top 25 is determined by a simple points system based on how each voter ranks college football's best teams.

Clemson, Georgia, Wisconsin and Ohio State follow the Crimson Tide in the top 5.

The preseason AP Top 25 Poll for the upcoming college football season has been released. Every other spot in the poll is filled by a major-conference program.

Alabama will begin its quest for a second consecutive national championship with a rare feat.

Additionally, of its 60 appearances in the AP preseason poll, 42 have seen OU ranked seventh or higher.

A host of Big Ten teams - five in all - cracked the top 15.

On Aug. 2, the Canes were ranked No. 8 in the Amway Coaches Poll. The Owls received 38 points in the preseason coaches poll, which equates to the No. 30 overall spot.

Two other Florida schools opened the season ranked in the AP poll.
