"I had a couple of offers from Red Bull", Alonso told Sky F1. Outside F1 I am discovering other series outside motorsport which give you different challenges and makes you more complete driver. "I guess I've kind of been bombarded with the questions already at the end of previous year when (Red Bull teammate) Max (Verstappen) announced his extension with the team".

Alonso said he did not expect to return to F1.

"There's been times this year that I've felt exhausted, maybe a bit jaded, and for the first time in my career, not completely enjoying F1", Ricciardo told Fairfax Media.

Meanwhile, the Force India Formula One team will race in this weekend's Belgian Grand Prix as a new mid-season entry stripped of 2018 constructors' championship points, the FIA governing body said on Thursday. "If I'm really honest it would have been something I would have liked to do in person and face-to-face", Ricciardo said in Belgium. Winning next year is still unlikely but I think the process over the course of the next 12-18 months will be quite good and encouraging.

"They have a winning mentality and a realistic way of going about it, which I liked", Ricciardo said. He knows the Renault product very well from all the time he's spent with us. Five years with Red Bull Racing, 10 years with the company - obviously it's been incredible and great, I felt like now is that time to take on something new. I don't have a crystal ball to know what will happen.

"From Red Bull, in fact, l had in 2007, 2009, 2011, 2013 and two this year - one in Monaco and one in August". (Red Bull owner, Dietrich) Mateschitz and me that he was OK with everything and that he was going to sign during the test on Tuesday.

"There was back and forth over the last few months".

Abiteboul suggested that Ricciardo's decision to leave Red Bull could at least in part be down to doubts over his current team's decision to change engine provider in 2019.

The second Ferrari seat alongside Sebastian Vettel is the only place at the top two teams that has not been announced at this stage but Alonso's remarks seem to confirm the increasing impression in F1 that Kimi Raikkonen will be retained.

Hamilton has sealed three of his four world championships with Mercedes, while McLaren have failed to win a race since he left.

"But the third time he told me I realised it was for real and you just have to wish him well".

"It sounds easy saying it like that but it wasn't easy".

"So that was pretty much how it all ended, or how my decision came".

Marko added: "Including his time in the junior programme he has been with Red Bull for 10 years". "What they're doing with their finances and the way they are doing it showed me they want to win".
