Nick Foles to start in Eagles' opening-night contest

Of course, it would be a lovely tribute to Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles if he opened the Eagles season, but deep down, Wentz is the better QB who gives the team the best chance to win.

Philadelphia has something of a quarterback controversy underfoot, with Carson Wentz not quite 100 percent from the knee injury that forced him to miss the end of last season.

"I appreciate y'all putting words in my mouth this week", he told reporters in Philadelphia.

Wentz still hasn't been medically cleared for contact as he comes back from surgery last December to fix two torn ligaments in his left knee. I don't want to put my game plan out there for people to see it, read it. "We've got a lot of days left [before the opener]", Pederson said, prompting a question about whether he was trying to maintain an edge on an opponent that wouldn't know which quarterback it would be facing.

Even more exciting, Clement is expected to take on a much larger role in the backfield this season teaming up with Jay Ajayi and Darren Sproles since LeGarrette Blount is no longer in the picture.

Foles started in the preseason for the Eagles and struggled, causing concern for an offense that was dynamic and at times unstoppable in 2017.

In his second season a year ago after having been the No. 2 overall pick in the 2016 draft, Wentz had put himself in the MVP conversation before suffering a severe knee injury in Week 14.

On the same day that Philadelphia officially cut their roster down to 53 players before Saturday's deadline, the team also announced that it would Nick Foles under center for that first game of 2018 against Atlanta, which seems like the correct move.
