Apple launched the iPhone X past year, and for the first time in more than a decade sales did not go as well as analysts had anticipated.

The iPhone XS Max on the other hand has a huge 6.5-inch OLED Super Retina Display making it the largest phone Apple has ever built and one of the largest smartphones available. XR comes in a bunch of bright, fun colors and although the screen is a big 6.1 inches, you can tell it doesn't go quite edge to edge as it does on the higher end Xs.

The crème de la crème of this year's crop are the iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs Max, and Apple is clearly betting on bigger equating to better with these new models.

The phones are updates to last year's iPhone X (10), which was released to mark the 10th anniversary of the smartphone.

Apple opened its event by announcing the new Apple Watch Series 4 with a 30 percent bigger display compared to its predecessor.

The company has been affected by leaks in the past.

Apple also showed off a cheaper iPhone, called the iPhone XR.

The tech giant will live-stream its event on the social media platform for the first time on Wednesday as it looks to draw in a larger audience.

These latest models also take advantage of the fastest cellular speeds available today, but on 4G networks, not on 5G.

The cameras are being powered by lots of smart algorithms working under the hood, which also enable a new smart HDR feature as well as the ability to adjust the depth-of-field of a photo after the fact.

To differentiate itself from the iPhone XS series, the XR gets the iPhone 5C treatment with a choice of six colours, namely Blue, White, Black, Yellow, Coral and Red.

The tricky part about getting a feel for these new phones is that most of what makes them really important is happening under the hood. The price of the SE started at Rs 20,000 for the base version.

Apple says the new watch will be able to detect an irregular heartbeat and start an emergency call if it detects that a user has fallen down. It features the same A12 Bionic chip as the Xs, and houses the same bundle of sensors in its "notch", meaning it has the exact same Face ID capabilities.

The XS and XS Max have dual 12-megapixel rear cameras and a dual 7-megapixel selfie camera - just like the iPhone X.

At the bottom end of the range is a new phone, the iPhone XR, that's meant to replace the iPhone 8 in the lineup.

It comes in two sizes, 40mm and 44mm (up from 38mm and 42mm, respectively).

The premium iPhone XS is made with stainless surgical grade steel with a new glass formulation and has edge-to-edge screen, Apple said in a statement. The Apple Watch Series 4 Global Positioning System and Cellular edition models come in Silver, Space Grey, and Gold aluminium case options.
