"Messi, like all of us, is really motivated to win big things [this season] and the Champions League is one of them".

Messi has scored twice from free kicks in six matches this season.

If the World Cup proved anything, however, it is that Messi can not do it alone and Barcelona Messi will need others to shine if they are to end their Champions League hiatus.

Messi led the way for Barca - who ended the match with 10 men following Samuel Umtiti's red card for a second bookable offence in the 79th minute.

Messi's treble against the Dutch champions was his eighth in the Champions League, moving him clear of Juventus' Cristiano Ronaldo with seven, as the player to have netted the most hat tricks in the competition. Three times, Messi has hit hat-tricks in his opening game.

Barcelona won against PSV Eindhoven on Tuesday, as Lionel Messi, scored his 103rd goal in the UEFA Champions League with a dominant hat-trick. "That's where we need Dembele".

A spectacular freekick sparked the rout as Lionel Messi scored three goals in Barcelona's 4-0 win over PSV.

Celtic and Milan follow closely, having conceded eight goals each to the Barcelona captain.

The outstanding performance was the first step toward Messi keeping his promise that the season would end with Barcelona lifting another European Cup. He continues to play all over the formation, but has seen much of his success as an inverted right winger, where he can cut onto his left foot and freely make magic happen.

Messi, speaking to Catalunya Radio, explained how his style of play has evolved from when he made his debut.

Meanwhile, Valverde also lauded Messi following his Champions League heroics.

In the group's other match, Mauro Icardi volleyed in a superb equaliser for Inter Milan against Tottenham and Matias Vecino headed in the victor in injury time to complete a 2-1 win for the Italian club on its return to Europe's top competition.

His first real impression, however, was not what anyone in the Mestalla could have imagined though as he was sent off for the first time in the Champions League in his 154th appearance.
