In fact, not a lot went right in a 7-2 loss to the Houston Astros. Chris Sale basically said he had nothing. In fact he didn't have his B-game either. The left-hander issued a one-out walk to Bregman and then a two-out free pass to White to put runners on first and second and end his night.

Josh Reddick and Yuli Gurriel added insurance in the ninth with home runs off Brandon Workman.

After the sequence unfolded, several people on Twitter praised Red Sox fans for not pulling a Steve Bartman.

His last start didn't inspire much confidence, either, when he gave up three runs to the Yankees in the Division Series and was pulled in the second inning. That and holding the Red Sox to just three hits on the night.

Later in that first inning Cole missed his spot again, this time leaving a 2-2 fastball out over the plate to Rafael Devers, who poked it through the left side of the infield to drive in another run. "I was trying to limit the damage and get out there as quick as we can". This time he fumbled a grounder in the sixth inning and that opened the door for Carlos Correa's RBI single off Joe Kelly.

Cora disagreed with a strike call that resulted in Andrew Benintendi stranding the bases loaded in the fifth inning.

After J.D. Martinez lined out to second base, Xander Bogaerts tapped one back to the mound but Cole airmailed the throw to first, allowing Benintendi to take third and Bogaerts to scamper to second.

"No, (we don't talk) about playoffs, but we talk about pitching", Cora said. These are the World Champion Astros, after all. They both got hit pretty hard.

The Red Sox have seemingly sorted this bullpen thing out (finally). That's a whopping 113 fewer than the Red Sox. Nathan Eovaldi and Rick Porcello will be in the bullpen, though one of them will likely start Game 3 on Tuesday.

"We want to have a collection of relievers that can come in at any time and I can rest anybody at any time".

"I read somewhere in social media", Cora said, "that his only postseason start (in which) he went nine (innings), it was under 50 degrees, he went nine innings and gave up two runs". It was the first extra-base hit of the game and extended the Astros post-season homer streak to 13 games in a row, matching an American League record.

The postseason has been good to George Springer.

Then there's the team's sparkplug, Alex Bregman. He reminds me of Dustin Pedroia in his prime. Hinch says he's never met anyone who loves baseball more. The game-time temperature was 53 degrees and Price allowed two runs in eight innings. That's the type of depth and talent a big-time lineup brings to the table. And based on their form from September bleeding into October, they look capable of shortening this series in a hurry. "But once that happens, then you've got to reset and not relinquish the lead". This is such a good opportunity for these guys to showcase against the best teams and on the biggest stage and in front of millions and millions of people. I felt like I was battling myself for a little bit. Cole's missed location to Bradley was not as egregious as the Benintendi single, but he missed enough to put it right in Bradley's wheelhouse. They'll need to pitch better, hit better and field better. The Astros are an incredibly confident bunch and it got a nice start from their ace.

This was supposed to be David Price's night.
