Kershaw gem puts Dodgers one win away from World Series

With so much at stake, the three-time Cy Young Award victor bounced back from one of his worst postseason starts with one of his best, pitching the Dodgers past the Milwaukee Brewers 5-2 Wednesday for a 3-2 lead in the NL Championship Series. It was a great baseball game, it really was.

After the game, Aguilar's teammates were critical of Machado's play, but Aguilar said the two talked it out when Machado singled in the 13th. "It's win or go home now, and we got no choice".

"There's no secrets anymore", Kershaw said, after giving up five runs (four earned) in three innings of Game 1. He issued one walk and struck out eight. But Kershaw still has to go out there and make the pitches, and he largely has.

"They use video people to get sequences", a Brewers source told The Athletic of the Dodgers. Despite the Astros taking Game 1 in Boston, the Red Sox literally came back swinging - that is, Mookie Betts did, owning one-fifth of all the runs scored by the BoSox in the series thus far and helping the team surge past the 'Stros in the three games that followed.

Wade Miley (5-2, 2.57 ERA) will start today for the Brewers, while Los Angeles will turn to Kershaw (9-5, 2.73).

The Dodgers now lead the series 3-2 heading into Friday night's Game 6 in Milwaukee.

"We lock it in, win one tomorrow, and we feel a lot better heading home", Yelich said. Miley didn't appear injured and no one really knew why the left-hander's outing was cut short before being replaced by right-hander Brandon Woodruff.

While they haven't pounded the ball with the proficiency of Boston or Houston, the Brewers entered Game 4 of the NLCS leading the playoffs with a.265 team batting average.

Machado had reached base with a one-out single before moving to second on a wild pitch while Bellinger was at the plate.

The Brewers tied the game 1-1 in the fifth on an RBI double from pinch hitter Domingo Santana to score Orlando Arcia from first base.

But the Brewers made 18 consecutive outs between the third inning and a ninth-inning mini-rally, undoing their pitching staff's resourceful performance. Before you lay any Dodgers vs. Brewers picks of your own, there's no better expert out there than Adam Thompson.

The three-time NL Cy Young Award victor pitched in and out of trouble in the third, when the Brewers loaded the bases and scored their lone run.

Miley pitched 5 2/3 shutout innings in Game 2 vs. the Dodgers, allowing two hits and walking none.

The Brewers don't have much time to fix their woes, but Counsell might need to contemplate more lineup changes for Game 5.
