The former SC standout was named MVP of the ALCS after the Boston Red Sox defeated the Houston Astros, 4-1, on Thursday to win the best-of-seven series.

Can the Astros keep their season alive? Cora couldn't throw Price's disappearing changeups or fastballs that ran up to 96 miles per hour, but he's certainly put Price at ease since their first meeting prior to spring training.

On his 43rd birthday, at the expense of the club he won a title with a year ago and in his first season as a big league manager, Alex Cora is going back to the Fall Classic.

The Red Sox will head back to the fall classic for the first time since 2013.

But before leaving Minute Maid Park, the Red Sox surrounded the 43-year-old Cora in the clubhouse and heartily sang "happy birthday!"

"Boston is a flawless 5-0 in road games this postseason, with two wins in NY in the ALDS and three in Houston in the ALCS", notes CBSSports.com's Katherine Acquavella. Clearly, home field advantage is overrated.

But there was another source of help that came from outside of the Red Sox organization, although not too far removed. For whatever reason, that did not work out. That one K? Bregman. It was a huge chess move that backfired big time.

Marwin Gonzalez scored Houston's only run of the game with a home run in the seventh inning.

Devers, who turns 22 on Wednesday, has 12 RBIs in 10 postseason games. Before Game 5, Price was 0-9 with a 6.16 ERA in 11 postseason starts. In 6⅓ innings, Kimbrel surrendered six hits and five runs, pegged two batters, walked six, and struck out eight. The problem is Boston outfielder Mookie Betts also was trying to catch it. Better safe than sorry, we guess.

Stealing signs is as much a part of baseball tradition as stealing bases, but the technology available now could open a whole new frontier of competitive sleuthing.

"We saw his hands", he said.

In the top of the third inning, J.D. Martinez delivered a solo shot off Justin Verlander to break a scoreless tie. The next pitch, Martinez drove deep into the Crawford Boxes. Altuve's potential two-run homer was wiped out.

That meant Devers' home run was more than enough to give Boston the win. He was being goaded into tossing it back.
