Thanks to the tie, India continue to lead the five-match series 1-0 after two matches.

While he acknowledged the fans' applause by raising his bat after reaching the 10k landmark, the crowd was on its feet again when Kohli creamed Marlon Samuels to the cover boundary to bring up his century, his 37th in this format.

The 35-year-old Bravo, who is not a part of the team which is now engaged in a series in India, played 40 Tests, 164 ODIs and 66 T20Is since making his debut back in 2004. Outside cricket, he also found fame for his hit track "Champions" that became the West Indies' anthem during their triumphant 2016 T20 World Cup campaign in India.

But the day belonged to Kohli who reached 10,000 runs in his 205th innings as he surpassed fellow batting great Sachin Tendulkar, who first crossed the 10,000-run mark in 259 innings in 2001.

"(But) we need to be more consistent as a team".

With the feat, Kohli also became the fifth Indian batsman and 13th overall to join the club.

Kohli almost gave away the opportunity on 44 when he mistimed a delivery from debutant Obed McCoy for a boundary, but was dropped by West Indies captain Jason Holder.

Holder congratulated Kohli for his 10,000 runs and also praised Hope for his 123-run innings.

"Considering the situation they were in at one point when they (West Indies) were cruising, we are happy as a bowling unit".

'However, I must accept that for me to preserve my longevity as a professional cricketer, I must do as others before have done, leave the worldwide arena for the next generation of players'.

Shai Hope, who nearly earned the win for West Indies with an unbeaten 123, was crestfallen after failing to cross the line. On a flat deck in Guwahati, Indian bowlers did not fare well but the top order took the game away from their rivals in style.

The crowd favourite, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, walked in to a rousing reception and was bowled by McCoy, his maiden wicket, for 20.

The third match is slated for Saturday in Pune.
