Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry not paying any attention to Anthony Davis rumors

The Los Angeles Lakers might be favorites over the Boston Celtics in trading for New Orleans Pelicans star Anthony Davis. But according to National Basketball Association insider Chris Sheridan, Davis to Los Angeles has been in the works for years, which seems to indicate they may have the edge over Boston.

Talk of making a trade for a big star seems to be cropping up earlier than usual, along with the accompanying push-back and patience-preaching from Danny Ainge in the front office. Boston owned a 10-2 lead before the Pelicans made a shot from the floor.

They are in desperate need of a point guard.

But Boston should not be counted out. The Celtics destroyed their closest rivals (76ers) in the season opener, and it looked as though the team had a chance to win their first Championship in a decade. Boston is also said to be his preference. Jaylen Brown has come under intense scrutiny for his displays and according to ESPN's Real Plus/Minus ranking, he ranks 407th out of 434 total players and he has more turnovers so far than assists.

Both teams had success in the playoffs last season and have high hopes for this year.

Kyrie Irving's 26 points lead two other 20-point scorers in Boston's 124-107 win in New Orleans.

Davis likely won't be traded this season because he still has another season on his contract, but the rumors are only going to get louder if New Orleans struggles.

Will Anthony Davis be traded before the February deadline? "How does that correlate?" I don't even know what to say at this point. "When we're playing at that type of level, then we're tough to beat, because offensively it'll take care of itself".

"That's my plan", Davis told reporters after the team's shootaround Monday morning. "We don't talk about it".

Davis has been able to mask so many of this team's faults when he's playing at his best, but he won't be the knight in shining armor that comes in to save the day on this one.

"Of course, I know that in order to win games, a lot of pressure is going to be on me", Davis said. So we expect him to be in the right spots and doing the right things.

"At winning time like that, I have the confidence in my teammates and confidence in my coaching staff to make the right plays and seek out the mismatches that we want", Irving added.
