Jose Mourinho out as Manchester United manager

Los Blancos are not the same side that beat Liverpool in last year's finals to become the first team since Bayern Munich in the 1970s to win the event three times in succession.

"We can not compare with their intensity", Mourinho said, "we can not compare with their physicality".

Currently, Liverpool has to be the favorite as they top the Premier League but Bayern seems to be finding form. It's not acceptable. They're not going to win the Champions League, they're not going to get into the top four. "I don't think there's much more we can say. It's a really nice trip for all our supporters, it's a wonderful city, so that's all good". There was a lot of pressure obviously in the second half, which we knew (would come). In the end, the boys have to decide it on the pitch. We'll do our best.

Thankfully for him, however, there's still over two months to prepare and Liverpool have a game with Wolverhampton Wanderers on the horizon this Friday. "We can manage two achievements in those two games", Genesio said.

There was more talk about whether Fergie was the right man to take the club forward after that game than at any other point in the noughties, and United didn't make it out of the group stage - when such a thing was unheard of.

"To be in the last 16 means you deserve it. If you win games you can stay there, and if you don't win you go below", he said.

"It's hard to lose in the moment where the game was dying, and when [Virgil] Van Dijk, Fabinho, [Dejan] Lovren, they were coming with the ball and couldn't find space, they had to shoot from 30 metres. They're the league leaders in England", Bayern sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic said of Liverpool.

Manchester United have confirmed that Jose Mourniho has left the club as first team coach.

Liverpool reclaimed its one-point lead over Manchester City with almost half the season gone.

"The round of 16 is always tough". You know you are going to get injuries, but you hope to keep them as few as possible. "I'm neither satisfied nor unsatisfied by the draw".

"It's a tough draw, but a attractive match". But still I see chances for us. He has done the most incredible job and I do think he is the person who is the most outstanding candidate.

Difficult. Good draw. It was clear it would be difficult [and] they are obviously a top side.

Pressed as to why, he added: "Because I am happy with [Nemanja] Matic, Lingard and [Ander] Herrera".

A series of like for like changes saw the game fizzle out but the Reds could not afford a similar outcome in yesterday's clash; the competition from Manchester City is too intense to allow for that.
