Trump defends Syria move in Iraq visit

President Trump visited American military forces in Iraq on Wednesday, a surprise trip and the first visit to troops stationed overseas in a combat zone by a commander in chief who has made withdrawing the United States from foreign wars a signature issue. We are always going to protect you.

You just got one of the biggest pay raises you ever received. "I got you a big one", Trump repeated idiotically.

The pay raise Trump authorized this year amounted to 2.6 percent, not 10 percent.

According to a pool report of the trip from Newsweek, the president at one point asked the chaplain of the Navy's SEAL Team 5 to come over and get a photo with him. So I wanted to let you know.

The raise for the military that was approved in Trump's first year in office was 2.4 percent, for 2018.

For the first time since he became president two years ago, Donald Trump visited American troops in a conflict zone - Iraq.

President Donald Trump returned to the White House on Thursday after making an unannounced trip to Iraq to visit USA troops stationed there.

"President Trump must not take actions to politicize the USA military or military service members", said Democratic Rep. Adam Smith of Washington state, the incoming chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, in a statement Thursday.

The president defended his decision to withdraw 2,000 US forces from neighboring Syria, saying the USA military had all but eliminated IS-controlled territory there.

Shortly after US President Donald Trump's surprise announcement that the forces would pullout, officials said the plan could be implemented in as little as 30 days. Make it 10 percent.

Trump said Deputy Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan, whom he named on Sunday to replace Mattis in an acting capacity starting on January 1, "could be there for a long time".

It is a falsehood Trump has repeated before. Before the president's arrival, the Air Force captain holding the Trump flag was directed to put it away by an official with the 86th Airlift Wing, but the captain pulled it back out upon Trump's arrival. It shows Trump flashing a thumbs-up as he and the first lady, Melania Trump, stand with troops who appear to be from Seal Team Five, and then shaking hands with the service members, who are outfitted in combat fatigues, helmets and night vision goggles. "We're no longer suckers, folks", he said.

While you were stuffing your face with Aunt Cathy's holiday pudding, Trump and Melania made a decision to visit the troops in Iraq.

The falsehood about military pay raises may be turning into a theme for Trump. As it turns out, that might have been a violation of Defense Department rules.
