Kevin Hart May Host Oscars After "Raw" Ellen DeGeneres Interview

Kevin Hart was initially dismissive when his old homophobic Tweets and routines began to resurface after his Oscars hosting announcement, including a bit about how he'd proudly smash a doll house over his son's head if he was acting "gay".

Kevin Hart is apparently shutting the door on hosting the Oscars, despite seeming to suggest otherwise while talking to Ellen DeGeneres.

"I think he needs to come out and say I was wrong, that was ignorant, we have people that are killing themselves and committing suicide", she continued. "Let me assess, just to sit in the space and really think and you and I will talk before anything else". It was, 'Kevin Hart steps down because he refuses to apologize for homophobic tweets.' This was what was said and it was blasted all over the internet, and the word "again" somehow got lost, which was a major word. I know that within my apologies, I've taken 10 years to put my apology to work.

"This is to damage the lives that have been invested in me", he asserted.

DeGeneres' insistence that it is Hart's "right" to host the Oscars was so offensive that many detractors registered their disdain on social media. "Because that was wrong". ' For you to be the bigger man, for you to say I understand. and to not pay attention. "We want him to host.whatever we can do, we would be thrilled, and he should host the Oscars", she said, the Washington Examiner reported.

DeGeneres shared the first clip on her Twitter account, captioning it "I believe in forgiveness".

"If he comes out vociferously apologizing, then everybody deserves a second chance", she said.

DeGeneress told Hart he should take the job, to prevent his critics from winning. "This was by far the most raw/honest & authentic interview that I have ever done".

The magazine has also called hosting the Oscars "the least wanted job in Hollywood". I'm sorry. But either my apology is accepted or it isn't. So I was going to leave it alone. I don't want to have this conversation anymore because I know who I am.

Another source told the outlet that The Academy hoped Hart would respond to the controversy with a meaningful discussion, and his initial response was disappointing leading them to deliver the ultimatum - either he apologized for his tweets or he would be let go.

The celebrated daytime host is an advocate and member of the LGBT community -- and has hosted the Academy Awards herself twice.

DeGeneres, who has previously hosted the Oscars and is married to actress Portia de Rossi, offered strong support for Hart. I don't want to hear a hostile retelling of how we didn't hear your meager apology the first time.
