"I don't know what to say right now because Bianca gave me a hard time today".

She'll face defending champ Julia Goerges of Germany in tomorrow's final.

Though Williams, 38, is not the player she used to be, beating her is still an fantastic accomplishment for Andreescu.

"Honestly, I can't believe it", said Andreescu who was near speechless at having beaten Wozniacki to set up a quarter-final against Venus Williams who progressed to the final eight with a 6-4, 6-3 win over fellow American Lauren Davis.

Williams, seeded six in Auckland, broke Davis for the first time in the sixth game of the first set and took control from there. "I fought and I really enjoyed myself".

Andreescu has one more match to play in Auckland. She admitted she was tense. "I'm like "I'm one game away from winning this" but then she started raising her level and I kind of stepped back. I'm just going to go for everything" and that's what I did and it worked.

"I guess Auckland brings out the best in me". "I'm just really happy and hopefully I continue like this for the rest of the season, for the rest of my career". An injury-marred 2018 saw the young Canadian consolidate her Top 200 position with a 43-18 win-loss record in ITF tournaments and WTA qualifying, but she fell in the final round of qualifying at both Roland Garros and Wimbledon - the closest she came to a WTA-level main draw a year ago.

The world No 28, 33-year-old Hsieh is renowned for her crafty play, with an often expert ability to take the pace off the ball and use the angles of the court.

Naomi Osaka ended a two-match losing streak against Anastasija Sevastova, but she needed three sets to beat the Latvian at the Brisbane International.

Andreescu, who entered No. 152 in world rankings and had to go through qualifying just to get in, put together some spectacular upsets on her way to the final in the tune-up event for the Australian Open.
