Nicole Kidman snubs Rami Malek at 2019 Golden Globes

The Golden Globes are the first major show on the road to the Oscars. He looked genuinely pleased with the award, happy to be at the ceremony and overall stoked about life, and he told a meandering story about boats that would remind anyone of being cornered by their joyful, maybe-a-little-drunk uncle at a family party - in the most heartwarming way. Ratings for the show have fallen just 11 percent since 2015, when the 72nd installment of the Globes averaged 20.9 million viewers; by comparison, deliveries for the Emmy Awards have plummeted 43 percent in the last five years, while the Academy Awards in the same period have lost 39 percent of its audience and the Grammys are down 31 percent.

Oh won best performance by an actress in a drama television series for her role in the BBC's Killing Eve, becoming the first Asian woman to take home the award in nearly 40 years, the Independent also notes.

Political speeches were mostly absent from the ceremony - until actor Christian Bale got up to accept his award for best actor, comedy.

Golden Globe hosts Andy Samberg and Sandra Oh.

Cooper is at 3/1 to win the Best Actor Oscar at the awards ceremony on February 25.

"Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" won for best animated film. Best supporting actress in a drama movie went to the Oscar front-runner Regina King for her work in the "If Beale Street Could Talk".


Also receiving multiple awards was "Roma", Alfonso Cuaron's affectionate look at his childhood in Mexico City, which won for best foreign film and best director.

"Regardless of the medium what fascinated me was the way the stars on the screen could make people laugh or cry or sometimes both", she said.

Netflix also won numerous awards for the series "The Kominsky Method".

Olivia Colman won best actress in a comedy/musical for her part as Queen Anne in "The Favourite". In keeping with network TV's myopic tradition, NBC last night aired promotional spots from its streaming antagonists Netflix ("Bird Box") and Amazon Prime ("Hannah", "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel") as well as spots from cable rivals FX ("Fosse/Verdon") and HBO, which ran a 60-second teaser for the new seasons of "True Detective", "Veep" and "Game of Thrones" as well as the upcoming series "Watchmen" and "Euphoria".
