Arsenal boss Unai Emery has admitted the Gunners checkbook is closed this month, and that anyone incoming at the Emirates will do so only on loan.

"I asked in the last match at Blackpool if he is okay to help us play and he said, 'Yeah, coach, I want to play" and he played with a very big behaviour and commitment to us.

The reports states that former Barcelona executive Raul Sanllehi had been leading the negotiations with his old club and that the Suarez deal is likely to have some form of obligation to buy inserted into the agreement.

Arsenal spent around £70m on four players last summer - Lucas Torreria, Matteo Guendouzi, Sokratis and Bernd Leno with Stephan Lichtsteiner also arriving on a free transfer - and signed striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for a club record £56m in January 2018. "We can only sign players later on. Only loan players this January", he said.

"I know the club is working on possibilities of which players can help us with big performances like we need now", Emery added.

"I don't know now his [Suarez's] situation but we can only sign on a loan", Emery said. Only loan players. I can say to you that the club is working, the club is telling me the different situations in each moment.

Arsenal pay West Ham United a visit at the London Stadium on Saturday in what will be a crucial encounter for both the capital sides.

"In the last match I was very happy with him".

"After, his future belongs to him, his family and agent".

"I respect his decision a lot".

He said: "We can not sign permanently".

Suarez, left out of the Barcelona squad for the meeting with Getafe on Sunday night, wants to reunite with Unai Emery, under whom he won the Europa League with Sevilla in 2014-15.

Arsenal have been handed a major injury boost ahead of the game as Hector Bellerin is back from a calf injury while Nacho Monreal is also pushing for a recall after recovering from a niggling hamstring problem. "Mkhitaryan has been training with us At the moment we are better than we were a week ago".
