Ex-Warriors guard Patrick McCaw to sign a deal with the Raptors

After three games with the Cavaliers, McCaw was waived on Sunday before his contract would have been guaranteed for the remainder of the season. The allegation is that the Cavs and McCaw's agent had a handshake deal in place before the contract was signed that they would release McCaw, allowing him to sign with any team.

The NBA is trying to find out if there was any wrongdoing in the Cavs' deal with McCaw in late December, when McCaw was a restricted free agent with the Golden State Warriors.

The Warriors declined to match McCaw's offer sheet almost seven months after rejecting their $1.7 million qualifying offer and two-year, $5.2 million deal, which included a non-guaranteed deal his second year.

The NBA is investigating the circumstances surrounding McCaw's release at the Warriors request, according to an earlier report by the New York Times. The NBA had examined the two-year, $6 million offer sheet closely prior to approving it, league sources said, but found no reason to disallow it. After passing on the Golden State Warriors' qualifying offer this summer, McCaw found it hard to find another offer.

McCaw averaged 4.9 FanDuel points in 17.7 minutes over three games for the Cavaliers.

McCaw, who had been out for months, was seeking multi-years with multi-millions attached.

Not so fast Cleveland- if they were to have their sites on too collegiate players like Duke's Zion Williamson and R.J. Barrett, think again. Under the terms of the deal, McCaw will make the minimum salary (less than he would have made had he stayed with Golden State).

One day before his contract became guaranteed, Cleveland waived McCaw.

For Patrick McCaw and the Cleveland Cavaliers, this is getting serious. Fines could range anywhere between $3 to $6 million as well as the loss of future first-round draft picks. "But if the National Basketball Association voided McCaw's contract, he could become a restricted free agent again". After he cleared waivers, he was free to sign with any team.
