A Utah teenager attempting a viral media challenge based on Netflix's hit Bird Box movie is being blamed for a parkway crash involving two cars.

The "Bird Box Challenge" takes its name from a recent Netflix movie in which the characters must remain blindfolded.

Wreckless videos of people trying to do things while blindfolded have gone viral, prompting Netflix to issue a warning about the challenge.

Amazingly, no one was injured-though this story could have had a much darker tone had she struck the innocent driver head-on.

He said police had recommended the driver face a charge of reckless driving.

Police told KSL that the driver, a 17-year-old girl, was driving the pickup truck seen in the photos above on Monday when the incident occurred.

"Luckily no injuries", police wrote. One woman almost burned herself on a heater, a boy repeatedly crashed into furniture with his tricycle, and a blindfolded toddler slammed into a wall.

The Bird Box Challenge wallowed somewhere in between being not-a-meme and a meme-in-embryonic-state earlier this month when Netflix tweeted a warning to its users not to engage in this risky activity.

"Can't believe I have to say this, but: PLEASE DO NOT HURT YOURSELVES WITH THIS BIRD BOX CHALLENGE", Netflix tweeted from its primary account.

It's also - and I can't believe we're at the point where this actually has to be said - an incredibly risky stunt to pull off the in real world.

A 12-year-old U.S. girl gave herself burns to about 50 per cent of her body last year.

Risky stunts made popular on social media have been taking lives for years.
