DJ LeMahieu, Yankees agree to $24M, 2-year deal

It's unknown exactly what Philadelphia has offered, but it's believed that the Phillies might have indicated to the four-time All-Star that they are willing to pay him around $250 million.

With this signing, the Yankees are likely out of the mix to sign free agent Manny Machado. Nationals executives are now calling a reunion with Harper a "long shot".

Harper, his wife Kayla and agent Scott Boras met Saturday with the Phillies managing partner John Middleton, president Andy MacPhail, general manager Matt Klentak, manager Gabe Kapler and assistant general manager Ned Rice.

The White Sox and Phillies have both finished below.500 in each of the last six seasons. The question will be how much he is used at a position other than second base since he's only played the other infield positions a total of 49 times. The 2019 Yankees will also be full of depth as they have valuable assets all around the diamond.

It's also worth mentioning that the Yankees recently signed Troy Tulowitzki, a longtime teammate of LeMahieu's in Colorado. Absent a notable trade, it's hard to find room for Machado.

The Yankees' talks with Machado are either dormant or completely dead, and unless Machado accepts far less money from the Yankees than he might get elsewhere, Andujar will be back at third base.
He hit.276 previous year with 15 homers and 62 RBIs, and he won his second straight Gold Glove and third overall.

If the White Sox are able to sign Machado, it will be interesting to see how they fare in 2019.

Potentially, that's bad news for Machado and for Yankees rooters who've been daydreaming of him in pinstripes.

That means Machado is expected to sign with the Philadelphia Phillies or Chicago White Sox. The situation remains fluid, of course.
