LeBron James returns to lead the Lakers past the Clippers

Lakers coach Luke Walton said James won't be on a minutes restriction, but he'll be closely watched.

James, who missed 17 games due to a groin injury, scored a team-high 24 points, grabbed 14 rebounds and delivered nine assists in his first National Basketball Association game since Christmas Day.

James has not played in nearly five weeks as he injured his groin against the Golden State Warriors on Christmas Day. "We'll keep prepping as if he's not going to play, and hope that he's healthy enough to start".

James' return couldn't have come at a better time for the Lakers.

When the Lakers first saw the Clippers in December, James had just suffered his groin injury.

Their next game after the Clippers is against the Warriors in Oakland, California, on Saturday.

The game could go either way, but the Lakers really, really need it go their way.

James will be joined in the starting lineup by Kyle Kuzma - who sat the last two games with a left hip strain - as well as Rajon Rondo, Brandon Ingram and Ivica Zubac. After the game, James said he felt good but admitted he's not quite back to full form just yet.

Another question surrounding the second-year forward, beyond his playing status, is his future with the franchise.

One, or all, of them, could be included in the trade package the Lakers are reportedly trying to put together to nab Anthony Davis from the New Orleans Pelicans.

As good as Davis is, there are not many National Basketball Association teams that are going to go all-in on Davis knowing that he could potentially be just a one-year rental.

It's a busy day for Klutch Sports.

"You can't control your destiny in this league, but you can control your work ethic and how great you want to be".
