Porzingis tells Knicks fans NY 'deserves better than that'

The Mavs' medical staff and team management will consult with Porzingis' camp to come up with a schedule to ramp up his basketball activity to include live practice action in the coming weeks, but barring a change of plans, he will not make his Dallas debut until the 2019-20 season opener.

Now mired in an abysmal 10-42 season, the Knicks' only hope is that they'll have the chance to draft a transcendent talent such as Zion Williamson in an effort to convince free agents that they are a desirable destination. They were looking to see if teams would part ways with their presumed untouchable players, like Jazz PG Donovan Mitchell and Kings PG De'Aaron Fox, but nothing came of it. Doncic already looks like one of the best rookies in recent memory and no player possesses both Porzingis' size and shooting ability.

In the end, the Knicks were able to not only shop Porzingis, but get rid of two expiring contracts in Tim Hardaway Jr. and Courtney Lee. And, of course, NY created tons of cap room for free agency this upcoming summer. Check back next season when we finally found out how much it could pay off on the court.

Mavs fans will have to wait patiently to watch Porzingis play with Doncic. The 40-year-old Nowitzki set an National Basketball Association record by spending all 21 of his seasons with the same franchise.

Porzingis had dinner with J.J. Barea after arriving in Dallas, and the Mavericks guard who is out for the season with a torn Achilles tendon said Porzingis had plenty of questions about the 2011 title run led by Nowitzki and sparked in the NBA Finals by Barea. "I didn't think when we drafted Dirk [Nowitzki] he was Larry Bird". He hopes that's the just the beginning of story time with Dirk. "He's probably way ahead of the curve... he's way better than I was at 20".

Assuming it is Nowitzki's final season, it won't be long before the focus turns entirely toward a pair of young Europeans who will try to bring a second championship to Dallas.

As the Mavericks are now constructed, they will nearly certainly have at least one full season of Doncic and Porzingis playing together.

"Next September seems like a long way away, but time is flying", Carlisle said.

And Porzingis figures to be ready to play.
