Harper, Giants met this week in free agency visit

The Phillies, White Sox, Nationals, Dodgers and Padres have met with Harper, which leaves about 25 Mystery Teams.

"Any time you can add an MVP to a team, it's going to make them better", Judge said.

One issue though is that the Yankees are already stacked with outfielders, with Judge and Harper playing the same position.

Conversely, the sweepstakes for Manny Machado has been quiet, as a lot of teams question Machado's work ethic with his "johnny hustle" quote in the 2018 playoffs: "I'm not the type of player that's going to be 'Johnny Hustle, ' and run down the line and slide to first base and ... you know, whatever can happen".

Boone said he was a little surprised neither Machado nor Harper has signed a contract with spring training right around the corner. "That's just not my personality, that's not my cup of tea, that's not who I am".

The San Francisco Giants are getting into the Bryce Harper game, according to a pair of early-morning reports. If he wants to set records, the biggest deal in baseball history was Giancarlo Stanton's $325 million extension, and Zack Greinke has the highest annual average value ever at more than $34 million.

As for Harper, the 26-year-old has played 184 games in center field at the major league level, with 63 of those happening last year.

With every argument made for a team to sign Harper - starting with his age and status as one of baseball's most feared hitters - there seems to be at least one counterpoint.

"Obviously [Harper] is a great player". "From what I understand, the Phillies have the most money to spend". Last year, Harper asked for a $400 million dollar deal over 10 years.

Still, as frustrating as this was to see for Phillies fans, this also shows how much potential this young team has when it comes to one day becoming a serious contender again, and it's safe to assume that Harper has noticed some of their underrated moves this offseason. But who's to say, at this point of the calendar, that the Giants don't have as good a chance as any team to land him? Wherever they want to go.
