The weather service said that was colder than the Arctic coast or North Slope of Alaska. "Significant travel impacts are anticipated for early in the week, and some power disruptions are also possible", said the Monday morning forecast for the storm.

The National Weather Service issued Winter Weather Advisories for South Jersey, New York City, Long Island, and the rest of CT. "Snow will come down heavy at times in the afternoon mixing with and changing to sleet late in the day with a changeover to freezing rain at night", the NWS said in a bulletin.

The weather agency says driving will be hard with sudden reduced or near zero visibility as the wind whips up the freshly fallen snow. Precipitation may end as snow early February 13.

The watches have been issued for areas to the far north and west of the city.

A winter storm is expected to move into the region Tuesday and Wednesday, bringing a mix of snow, sleet, freezing rain, and more snow.

Light snow accumulation and plummeting temperatures could make for a slick morning commute Wednesday.

Gov. Phil Murphy is declaring a state of emergency effective at midnight as a winter storm is poised to dump snow, sleet and rain across New Jersey. Winter storm warnings and winter weather advisories are in place for all of Wisconsin, WISC-TV says, with the extreme southeast being under the winter weather advisories. A winter weather advisory is issued when there is any freezing rain or if there is two to four inches of snow.
