The clip of Smith's portrayal of the Genie in the trailer is quite quick, as he's only on screen in character for about 4 seconds. "Y'all need to trust me more often!" "Honestly the Will Smith genie feels like a spoiler for BIRD BOX because I finally understand what image would make them so fascinated but also want to kill themselves", Buchanan tweeted.

"I'm here for Will Smith genie, no he won't be Robin Williams, no one will, and no one could".

Smith even tried to preempt criticism in an Instagram post where he said "and yes, I'm gonna be BLUE". But Sunday night, America got its first look at a live-action Genie - played by actor Will Smith.

Holy crap, that is the stuff nightmares!

The "whole new world" that Disney's live-action Aladdin will take viewers is apparently to the uncanny valley just outside of bizarro town.

However, many fans have reservations concerning the character of the Genie, originally voiced by beloved comedian Robin Williams. Smith, as Genie, asks.

In addition to Massoud and Smith, Aladdin will star Naomi Scott, Marwan Kenzari, Navid Negahban, Nasim Pedrad, Billy Magnussen, and Numan Acar. Disney released a teaser, and they also partnered with Entertainment Weekly to release pictures from the film. "Genie, wishes lamp... none of that ringing a bell?" Many users went straight to making an unflattering comparison between Smith's Genie and Tobias's Blue Man fail from Arrested Development, while others hoped for a do-over. All of Disney's "live-action" remakes - including the Lion King remake that is straight-up another cartoon, just made with photorealistic GCI rather than illustrations - are coming from a wrongheaded place. The film will hit screens on May 24, 2019.
