Queen's Oscars Opening Rocked Javier Bardem, In Particular

HOLLYWOOD-The iconic band Queen kicked off the 91st Academy Awards with a rollicking performance of "We Will Rock You" sung by frontman Adam Lambert.

The band performed "We Will Rock You" to a rollicking audience and followed up with "We Are the Champions".

Bohemian Rhapsody received five Oscar nominations. Lee was first nominated in 1990 for his Do the Right Thing screenplay, but he was shockingly snubbed for Best Director for that film, which also controversially did not receive a Best Picture nomination.

Malek, 37, had emerged a favourite for the Oscar in recent weeks after winning Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild and British BAFTA awards.

"Prior to the glitzy gala Lambert said on the red carpet the Queen members once told him that "'if Freddie was here with us still, you guys would get a big kick out of each other'".

Filmmakers used a combination of Mercury's real voice, Malek's voice and another singer against the band's original recordings to showcase Queen's hits.

The rock open was a departure for the Oscars, which this year made changes due to the decision to not have a host for the mega-watt event.

But just how many have seen one of the top nominees and the film favoured to win best picture - Alfonso Cuaron's Roma - remains unknown. That was never a plan for the Academy Award organisers as actor-comedian Kevin Hart was supposed to host the show.
