All The History-Making, Black AF Moments From The 2019 Academy Awards

"Black Panther" made history Sunday night, becoming Marvel Studios' first movie to ever win an Oscar.

Ali's subsequent win for Green Book made him the first black actor in history to take two honors in the category, while only one other black actor - Denzel Washington - has more than one competitive Oscar to his name (one for his supporting part in Glory, the other for leading Training Day). And the film has already won "Best Costume Design (Ruth E. Carter)' and Best Production Design (Hannah Beachler, Jay Hart).' The film did however did not win Best Sound Editing and Best Sound Mixing, losing to the Oscar-Winning, Bohemian Rhapsody".

"It's been my life's honour to create costumes".

Ryan Coogler's game-changing, billion-dollar blockbuster - which had racked up seven total nominations, including Best Picture - claimed its first award early in the telecast, for Best Costume Design.

This was Lee's first official Oscar win, although he did receive an honorary Academy Award in 2015. Both worked on "Black Panther". Mom, thank you for teaching me about people and their stories.

"I stand here stronger than I was yesterday", Beachler said.

"Ryan, working with you has been an incredible honor", Goransson said after accepting the Oscar. "I remember 12 years ago we were sitting in our dorm room at UC writing the score for your first film, and we're here 12 years later celebrating one of the most important cinematic moments in history".
