The death of the four-time Oscar victor and ten-time Grammy victor was announced on Thursday in NY.

The Berlin native died on Thursday (February 28) at his home in NY, his manager confirmed.

As a composer, Previn worked on films such as Gigi, Porgy And Bess, My Fair Lady and Irma la Douce - and he won best music Oscars for all four. Together, they were nominated for two Academy Awards for song "Faraway Part of Town" from Pepe (1960) and "Second Chance" from Two for the Seesaw (1962).

In 2010, he was recognized with the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and has been lauded for his ability to combine jazz, pop and classical music.

The musical legend was also well-known in the 1960s for having his name in the gossip pages when his affair with Mia Farrow led them to both leave their respective spouses (in Farrow's case, her high profile marriage to Frank Sinatra) for each other.

It ended with the comedian telling Previn he was "playing all the right notes, just not necessarily in the right order". He won Grammys for Gigi, and two years later for best jazz performance for selections from "West Side Story". Soon-Yi Previn, an adopted daughter of Previn and Farrow, later became Allen's wife.

Tributes poured in Thursday for Andre Previn, the multifaceted artist renowned for his mastery of classical music as well as jazz, who has died at age 89.

He was principal conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra (LSO) from 1968 to 1979.

"See you in the Morning beloved Friend", tweeted Farrow, who posted several photos of her and Previn.

Born Andreas Ludwig Priwin in Berlin on April 6, 1929, Previn was enrolled at the German capital's Conservatory of Music at age six when his father realized he had flawless pitch.

Previn served as music director for the Los Angeles Philharmonic as well as the Houston and Pittsburgh Symphonies, and frequently guest conducted worldwide.

Berlin-born Previn was infamously married and divorced five times, including to actress Mia Farrow, his third wife. Farrow and Previn married in 1970 and divorced in 1979.
