The current club captain Antonio Valencia is out of contract at the end of the season, and with United not looking to extend it, the Ecuadorian will be leaving the club.

Paul Pogba though now enjoying himself at Manchester United but will consider facing the exit door if the team fails to qualify for Champions league next season it has been revealed.

Solskjaer took over from Jose Mourinho in December and has overseen a remarkable turn of events for United, winning nine of their 11 games to revive hope for a top four finish.

Pogba is in line for United leadership role with Valencia is leaving in the summer, and with Mourinho is no longer at the helms of affairs, interim boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who may be handed the Red Devils job permanently, sees the French World Cup victor as the right man to take over from Valencia going forward.

But the chances of Pogba being allowed to leave Manchester United are fairly slim.

"If you tell me that in the past season that I had some problems".

Marcus Rashford returned from an ankle injury against Southampton, but Anthony Martial, Jesse Lingard, Ander Herrera and Nemanja Matic are all sidelined. I've watched him in training, he's an organiser. And that's what you need from your captain, " the 62-year-old said according to Metro.

"So, he's the best player, so, you give him the captaincy because he's the best player". He is one of the most under-rated players.

"He's not really saying to people "you come here, you come here, push forward", or just applaud your teammate". You don't always tell everybody off.

"I think I always did it, sometimes for the good of the immediate needs of the club and group".

And now, Robson who won two Premier Leagues and three FA Cups with United believes Chris Smalling and Ander Herrera would be the best choices for the role.
