'Captain Marvel' review: As Brie Larson dazzles, Marvel's future is definitely female

With a groundswell of voices pushing for the studio to finally hire a female director for the first time, and after Ava DuVernay's name was briefly mentioned in discussions for helming either Captain Marvel or Black Panther, the filmmaking duo of Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck landed the gig in April of 2017.

Brie Larson's Carol Danvers, the first woman in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to lead a solo film, stays single throughout the movie, which hit theatres on Wednesday.

When Avengers: Infinity War ended, we saw a disintegrating Nick Fury calling on Captain Marvel with an old school pager.

They have apparently retrieved and been monitoring Fury's pager. "Fury did", Widow replies and says she wants to know who is on the other end of that thing.

The scene in question has Captain Marvel at the Avengers headquarters already.

"Captain Marvel" is essentially an "Avengers" prequel, released less than two months before the final "Endgame " film punctuates this gargantuan chapter, so it's only fitting that the story itself is nonlinear, and Danvers' constant flashbacks provide a reasonably creative, timeline-jumping storyline. It's kind of their thing.

This scene perfectly sets up the upcoming events in Avengers: Endgame.

Two moments stood out.

Captain Marvel is now playing in theaters. In the latest scene to hit the internet, Captain Marvel, Nick Fury, and Talos are in the midst of an epic battle.

What happens: We're in the post-Infinity War days, as evidenced by a ten-figure "global missing" count on the wall of an Avengers facility. Tony looks crushed, though, possibly because of the loss of Peter Parker or because he nearly didn't get to see Pepper, so he doesn't stick around and leaves Nebula with the Avengers.

In the comics, Carol and the original Captain Marvel were caught in the explosion of a device called the Psyche-Magnitron, infusing her with his Kree DNA and giving her his powers. Hulk's costume also appears to confirm another rumour, that Hulk and Banner will combine their personalities to take on Thanos, resulting in a more intelligent Hulk, known as 'Professor Hulk'. There is absolutely no evidence in Captain Marvel to suggest that the Skrulls have done anything truly villainous, which puts us in an interesting position moving forward.

"There's real estate there".

Here's everything I know: Her supersuit looks like a cross between the costumes worn by Spider-Man and Wonder Woman.

Primeau stopped short of saying there's a "high degree of probability", which is the strongest opinion he could give, but added, "There's definitely a possibility that there was something there and they chose to remove it in order to keep a secret with the film".

Within few hours of Captain Marvel's theatrical release on Friday, everything from search engine giants (Google, Bing, MSN, etc.) to video streaming platforms (YouTube and DailyMotion) is flooded with requests for free download or online watch options.

A new Avengers: Endgame footage is afoot and might soon land on the internet for all Marvel fans to see.

To get into the spoilers of Captain Marvel - now that we can - I got goosebumps when the movie revealed [Bening's character is named] Wendy Lawson, and I realized, "Oh, she is Mar-Vell". Vers also has a nasty case of amnesia, having no idea where she came from, how she ended up on Hala, or why she can shoot laser fire out of her hands.

Captain Marvel speaks up and tells the group they need to go there and use the stones to undo everything.
