Ronaldo's treble saw Juve defeat Atletico Madrid and reach the Champions League quarterfinals 3-2 on aggregate.

Barcelona fans will not want to admit it, but Cristiano Ronaldo stole the limelight last night. "It was a big [shock] for me because I thought Atletico was going to be stronger".

Ronaldo, meanwhile, might want to watch what he sends to Evra in future because the former France global clearly doesn't hesitate to share any messages with the public.

Lucas Tousart's effort pulled Lyon back into the tie briefly and Messi, who scored Barca's third and then created goals for Gerard Pique and Ousmane Dembele, admitted the Catalans nearly let things get away from them.

Lyon coach Genesio added: "Tonight Messi was in Champions League mode".

"It was a Champions League match and in this type of game, it is normal that we have moments of tension and pressure because they tend to be very fair results". The quarterfinal draw is on Friday.

"I faced Messi when he was 16 years old and I was amazed".

"We are all psyched up for the Champions League and so is Leo". They met again in 2011 semifinals, when Messi scored twice to help Barcelona eliminate Real Madrid.

Lionel Messi is on track to win an unprecedented sixth Golden Boot at the end of this season, courtesy of his exploits in Spain's top flight.

Evra, who played alongside the Portuguese forward during his time at Manchester United before spending two-and-a-half seasons with the Turin giants, published the text messages he'd exchanged with Ronaldo in the build-up to the game, with the former Real Madrid star assuring him: "We gonna pass bro".

Messi counts Juventus as one of the top candidates standing in his way, but it is not alone. "[Manchester] City, Juventus, Ajax, who have a great team of kids and don't fear anything, Liverpool, who've shown they pack a punch".
