In the 25 years since then, The Elder Scrolls series has grown into one of the biggest RPG franchises around, and though we're now heading toward the sixth entry in the series, Bethesda is celebrating this anniversary by handing out free copies of arguably the most beloved Elder Scrolls game: Morrowind.

Elsewhere, The Elder Scrolls Online is going free-to-play during the period March 28 - April 3, while the Season of the Dragon's Elsweyr Prologue is now available to grab for free.

Finally, if you're really looking to represent your love for The Elder Scrolls, Bethesda has launched an Elder Scrolls 25th-anniversary merchandise line, including things like a lovely lithograph of Tamriel, a ceramic stein, yes, even a cookbook, and more. Even better, the version of Morrowind you can grab for free is the Game is the Game of the Year Edition, which includes both the Bloodmoon and Tribunal expansion packs. While Skyrim and Oblivion are certainly good games in their own respect, The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind gave players an unprecedented amount of freedom and challenge. There are a couple of little caveats to this giveway that are worth mentioning.

To get the game, you'll first want to check your calendar and make sure it says March 25, 2019 (March 26 in Australia), because that's the only day Bethesda's offer works. The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind made its debut on PCs and the Xbox in 2002.

To continue its 25th anniversary celebration, Bethesda is also serving up a variety of promotions for games like The Elder Scrolls Online as well as The Elder Scrolls: Legends.
