"Borderlands 3" was officially confirmed with a splashy trailer during developer Gearbox's annual PAX East talk on Thursday. The upcoming details will be announced on the game's official website. Though details are slim at the moment, we did get treated to the first look at gameplay in a new trailer. And a sax solo.

Despite the similarities, Borderlands 3 looks set to delve into a variety of new areas, from the wastelands we're accustomed, to lovely cityscapes.

It also seems like we'll be hunting in more places than just Pandora, as the trailer claims we'll be exploring "worlds", plural.

We don't know when Borderlands 3 will be released or what platforms yet, but we'll keep you posted! It was met with thunderous applause by those in attendance, who sat through a second playing of it once all of the issues were sorted out.

The trailer shows off some of the new and returning characters for Borderlands 3. The Borderlands games tend to have a mixture of traditional archetypes like Beserker, Hunter, and Soldier, but also throw some unexpected ones into the mix too, like Siren and Mechromancer. Xbox One customers will experience the absolute highest performance and highest fidelity graphics for any Borderlands game ever played on a video game console. It will feature new weapons, a big visual upgrade, quality of life improvements, all four DLC packs and more. It looks like a celebration of everything Borderlands, which could point to every character appearing in the sequel or potential remasters on the horizon, perhaps in a new engine?

It's a great time to be a Borderlands fan, that's for sure.

As announced by Gearbox, Borderlands: The Handsome Collection will receive its ultra HD update on on April 3 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
