Solskjaer defends Man United playing style after Van Gaal jibe

"After we scored, with a great goal, the rest of the first half we played some great counter- attacking stuff", he said.

"The first 20 minutes we started so slow and sloppy and you could see we have had players out with injuries in the global break and not been able to train them", said Solskjaer.

"I'm very happy and grateful I've inherited a team that's been through that". The Red Devils seemed lacklustre and lethargic throughout the game, and although they secured the win it was far from a trademark performance. First, there is a home game against Fulham and Gracia is confident his players will stay focused on finishing as high up the table as possible after dropping two places to 10th.

But after back-to-back defeats against Arsenal and Wolves, and a fortuitous win over Watford, the momentum he has brought to his old club is in danger of being lost if United can not raise their game over the remaining seven Premier League fixtures and a highly-anticipated Champions League quarter-final against Barcelona.

"We have played most of the teams, but by the end of the league then we will have played everyone in my reign and that's maybe a truer reflection of where we stand".

With a remarkable 35 points since Solskjaer's arrival from Molde, United are the Premier League's form-team even though the title remains out of reach for this season at least.

"Paul is important for us".

"His man management skills are terrific and he's definitely what we need going forward".

"Obviously we had a poor start to the season".

"He's come in and done a terrific job. It's a wonderful place to play football and that's where we want to get back to".

"They just need somebody who can really instil confidence, put an arm around them and tell them that they're doing a good job".

"He just brings a togetherness", said Foster, as quoted by United's website.

"We have a couple of days to get ready for Tuesday".

"When I was playing for him when I was in the reserves here, he was just brilliant. I thought Rashy (Rashford) was fantastic, he gave us the energy the others lacked, the two centre-backs and Luke Shaw were excellent as well", he said. "Everybody loves playing for him, you go out on the pitch with a smile on your face and a spring in your step".
